Today we celebrate Bettie Pages birthday. April 22, 1923

Bettie Page with her ability to transform from the girl next door to a Ravened-haired sexual goddess. Not only did she destroy the line of what was considered morally palatable of her time. She is the face one thinks of, when the topic of the more risqué Bondage pin up art. Even earning her the name in the media of "The Queen Of Bondage."

She has been quoted as saying she had only ever performed in bondage photography with Irving Klaw. Whom she worked with and his sister Paula from 1952-1957. Sadly Klaw had destroyed a decent majority of the pictures and the corresponding negatives of Bettie once he returned to New York. After being the target of the Kefauver Hearings of the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency.

Luckily his sister has saved what she could and those photos can be found in the BETTIE! : The Incomparable Bettie Page Archives of Irving Klaw.

Bettie Made a comeback in the form of inspiration for pin-up artist in the 70's. Most notably Olivia

deBerardinis, Robert Blue, Eric Stanton. Whose combined work has help lead and maintains the cult following of Bettie Page.

While her Life may not have been sunshine and rainbows. I do believe her work has helped revolutionize our outlook of acceptable sexuality since the 50's.
